[About NINJA GAIDEN Σ]

In addition to being able to pull off unmatched dazzling techniques with "Ryu Hayabusa", a young ninja who has inherited the ninja arts of the Hayabusa style, with beautiful stages in a westernized Japan embellished with spirit-world motifs, and more, the game is packed with features that are a must-play for any fan of action games.

■The epic story can easily be enjoyed with "Hero Mode"

When you select the difficulty setting "Hero Mode", Hero Mode is triggered when your health becomes low. With Hero Mode, you will guard and evade automatically, and can unleash ninpo as much as you want. Even casual action gamers will be able to feel the heroic thrill of escaping a pinch to turn the tables on the enemy and advance the game. Needless to say, difficulty modes that will satisfy hard-core gamers are also included.

[About NINJA GAIDEN Σ2]

Become Ryu Hayabusa, the ninja who inherited the "Dragon Sword", a legendary blade, and once again experience high-speed ninja action in which you face battles all over the world. The game is also packed with additional features such as "Hero Mode", a mode in which the player will guard automatically when they are in a pinch.

■In "NINJA RACE", life or death depends on speed

"NINJA RACE" is a mode in which you must race across the map within the time limit while fighting high-speed battles. In this mode, the number of enemies you defeat in succession is counted as your "CHAIN", and by stringing together a high chain, your attack power will increase dramatically. Also, you can pick up speed-up and time increasing items along the way, so attacking non-stop, defeating enemies as fast as possible, and gathering items will be essential to your strategy.

■Along with Hayabusa, 3 heroines dazzlingly dash about the battlefield

Heroines from the "NINJA GAIDEN" series, "Ayane", "Rachel", and "Momiji" appear as playable characters. With "TAG MISSIONS", players can select 2 characters from among Hayabusa and the 3 heroines, allowing them to switch between 2 playable characters as they complete their mission.

[About NINJA GAIDEN 3: Razor's Edge]

The ultimate high-speed ninja action has returned! The game offers both extreme "challenge", along with an equally extreme "sense of accomplishment". Experience the series' most alluring high-speed action.

■In addition to Ryu Hayabusa, Ayane, Kasumi, and Momiji join the battle!

In addition to main character "Ryu Hayabusa", the 3 female ninjas "Ayane", "Kasumi", and "Momiji" can be used as playable characters. And they aren't limited to just the "Chapter Challenge" story missions - the 3 characters can also be used in "NINJA TRIALS". Also, "NINJA GAIDEN" series heroine Ayane has a dedicated story.

■Thrilling battles where you must be constantly alert

"Tests of Valor", a special phase for series fans who want to enjoy battles even further, have been included. In each chapter, there are hidden skulls that serve as gates to "Test of Valor" areas. By stepping foot onto these areas, battles will occur where players must face the fiercest and strongest enemies from the "NINJA GAIDEN" series.

■Upgrading characters adds more replay value!

By collecting hidden "Golden Scarabs", using "Karma" collected in battles, and more, players can unlock new weapons and ninpo to upgrade their characters. Of course, upgrades you have applied can be carried over for 2nd and successive playthroughs. Among moves that can be unlocked, there are moves that are new to the series, such as "Cicada Surge", which allows you to dodge any enemy attack, "Meditation", which allows you to consume your Ki gauge to recover health, and more.

Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge is a better game than I remember. Perhaps it was updated further for the Master Collection that improved it over how I remember it originally? I'm unsure and don't care enough to research that point. Fact of the matter is, Razor's Edge is pretty solid but there's a caveat. Having said that, Razor's Edge was an obvious improvement over 3's original release - which was mostly unplayable. Your first time through Razor's Edge will be frustrating as hell. Not because "it's just that challenging" or because it's a "hard game." It's really not, similar to how Dark Souls feels crushing until you realize that you just don't have to be afraid of the game to be good at it and beat it. Razor's Edge will be frustrating as hell because it has some really cheap combat situations - e.g., some enemies elude you too often and sometimes seemingly guard all attacks just in order to force a retry on you. However, if you can make your way through the game once (beware the final boss fight. It's pretty much unmitigated trash), you will have gained access to several weapons, attacks, abilities, etc which make the combat WAY more enjoyable. There will be a chapter challenge mode that will unlock too as you play through the game which will let you choose any character you want to use to beat a given level (ex: using Ryu for an Ayane stage) - which I love because I abhor all of the characters in this game minus Ryu himself. Plus, Ninja Trials returns which is always fun. Case and point: beat the game once which will unlock several options for combat and then play through it again for a much more complete, and fun experience - at which I would rate about a 7.5 - 8 out of 10 (initial play through is about a 6.5 maximum).

NG 3: Trading identity for appeal

First off, I would like to say that, this game is one of my most hated ones in recent times. The question is, why is that? Well, the first game (04/Black/Sigma) tried to be its own thing with a clear vision behind it. It was unforgiving, hard, and often frustraiting, no one can deny that, but what the first game was not was by far unfair or not fun, once you understood how the game worked, you could use your whole arsenal to your advantage, which was also complimeted by the slower and more methodical gameplay. While it can be argued that some aspects were “bullshit”, most of those had a counter measure, be it healing items, weapons or strategies. The second game still had the NG DNA within, but it lost the semi-open world/metroidvania exploration aspect of the game, the gameplay became way faster (which isn't a bad or good thing, just preference) and it was the first time where the cracks started to show. The levels became linear and (in the sigma version at least) it often felt like you were just running from arena to arena, which is fine as the base of NG2 is solid gameplay wise. The story in NG1 was there I guess, but it was kind of detached from reality, as it didn't really take place in specific real life locations and NG2 changed that for some reason. The go-to was now “go to major city or travel half the globe after every mission” instead of “yeah you came into a made up city you have to get out from” and the interconnected areas were a big part of what made NG so fun to explore and replay. One thing that was also a major step down was that (the sigma version at least) became too easy on every difficulty except Master Ninja and it didn't prepare the player nearly enough to play on MN, as the game did a 360 and became a game where you die, because one random dude decided to grab you and no amount of skill or healing could counter that (except dodging, but that is not the point here). This was the point where you could clearly see that the developers had no idea how to balance the game to make it challenging and they just decided to implement a system that punishes you for playing and trying to learn, which feels very “cheap” and “discouraging” in my opinion. This isn't really that big of a deal as most enemies can be killed pretty quick, so even if you were to fail, it always felt like you can beat the enemy if you try hard enough. Ok, but how does all this relate to Ninja Gaiden 3? Well, NG 3 is what happens when you try to appeal to a bigger audience by following current trends, which is not a bad thing in itself of course. The issue is, that NG was always meant to be “unique” and the first one had a clear vision of what it can be and it stuck to it, even if it meant being different than everything else. While the second one tried blend modernity with tradition, making it the jack of all trades, and it succeded in most aspects. NG 3 threw out everything that made NG the game people liked and said: We need: QTEs Alchemists 4395 forced walking sections A story that makes even less sense than the other 2 Alchemists so many “cinematic” events tanky enemies Alchemists enemies that are way too fast enemies that are dodging too much Alchemists normal enemy encounters that are way too long and have a lot of off-screen enemies, that shoot at you all the time Bosses that are uncreative/boring or exasperating to fight (except maybe The Regent) Alchemists No healing items Charging a bar to cast ninpo instead of multiple casts Alchemists Reusing bosses from NG1-2 and making them different from the originals (some are just invincible 90% of the time) Most enemies in the game are the same British / Australian guy saying the same things over and over again Alchemists No more orbs = No on-landing UT There are things that NG3 does very well of course like: It has the best New Game plus system out of the 3 games The game is challenging even on Normal or Hard. Playing the characters feels nice. It's the best looking game in the series. You only need to collect the Scarabs/Skulls once. The Skull challenges are an excellent idea. Ryu has more of a personality now and is more relatable (I guess?). The Steel on Bone (SOB) is a genius mechanic. On a surface level the game seems good, but once you play it on a diffuculity above hard you start to notice all the flaws. It doesn't help that on Master Ninja and Ultimate Ninja you get destroyed by literally everything and parts that were passable are now just walls of frustration and they can make you quit the game. In my opition NG3 on MN and UN is what you could call unfair, as you get punished for everything you do. You use something other than the Dragon Sword? Dead! You use most of the moves in the game? Dead! You didn't see an enemy behind you attacking? You get combo-ed by five of them! You try to dogde? The enemies are already next to you, attacking! You try to execute an enemy? Use a normal heavy instead -> Get combo-ed! You look at one enemy? Get Tp grabbed from Off-screen -> Dead! You try to have fun? Alchemists! You play for five minutes? Alchemists! You have a boss coming up? Alchemists! Alchemists? Alchemists! All in all the game is enjoyable on Normal and maybe Hard, but anything beyond is just, as my friend put it, “Chinese water torture”. My main issue with the game is that it's too frustraiting to be enjoyable, due to it clearly being made to appeal to “casuals”, which hurt the game by making it so unbalanced that it's almost unplayable with 90% of the kit. If you decide to play it on MN or UN you will need to learn the Graveyard spin or you will suffer, but in using that it pretty much trivialises most of the game anyway. I will attach a video of UN gameplay so you can judge it yourself. I will end this review with the thing that i hated the most: The final boss. All you ever do is charge a bar by killing normal enemies, while the boss is standing in the background trying to attack you. ) This is how almost every fight on UN looks like: https://youtu.be/Fd4X6zjoVnQ This is the final Boss on UN: https://youtu.be/lXsbDBINmCg

I forgot how rough this game was until i played it again in this collection. They absolutely butchered all the stuff they got right in the previous two games (the originals/Black, not Sigma). Not sure how it is on consoles but the PC port seems really unresponsive during several fights. It often just seems like your inputs arent even registering. They completely got rid of essence which really slows down the pace of combat when you cant quickly chain into an ultimate. The game as a whole is way too linear with basically no exploration and an insane amount of scripted/quick time events which totally destroy the feel and flow. Not to mention forcing this weird cringey family narrative and having Ryu turn into this super talkative emotional protagonist and having uninteresting side characters constantly talking to him throughout each stage without actually lending anything to the experience. Another major gripe is the way they handle health and healing. instead of sticking with tried and true items they opted for a weird mechanic where your health bar takes a certain amount of lasting damage as well as a recoverable amount. The recoverable amount regenerates after each encounter and the rest is only regained once you hit a save point. the problem with this is you wont always be able to enter a boss fight with max health because they neglect to put save points before a lot of them and you end up fighting a boss with 1/3 of your max health if you werent careful through the first part of the stage. This coupled with increasingly annoying/excessively robust enemies and what feels like a cheap bullet-hell experience in many situations, all just makes this a fairly insufferable experience. Hate to be this critical, i know Team Ninja can do an amazing job but they let this one down hard. Could have been a great addition to the franchise if they hadnt gone completely off the rails with their questionable changes.

Huge letdown from the first game in the trilogy, and even 2. Boss fights are especially horrible and ruined the game for me. Some outdated design choices are easy to look past when knowing it's fairly old - but the second boss in particular was so bullshit that i lost interest in seeing the rest of the game.

This review is specifically for Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge: This game has some of the worst game design philosophy I have encountered in a action spectacle fighter. Between invulnerable spawning enemies, quicktime events that break the flow of combat, mandatory camera movements that remove the focus off your character that you can still get hit during, artificial difficulty increase of simply adding more enemies to the encounters, and the port having atrocious stuttering for anyone not running their monitor at 60hz. I can say definitively that this is the epitome of kusoge. I feel like something could've been good in this game if they took more time to flesh out some of those problems I've mentioned. i will admit some parts can be fun and the steel on bone mechanic with the base combat system is fun in a vacuum outside of this game, but seriously don't play this at higher difficulties than normal or hero, as the the flaws become very apparent. Play something else that's fleshed out like DMC5 or hell even Kingdom Hearts 2 critical mode. Anyone who unironically has fun with this entry at higher difficulties is either huffing major amounts of copium or actually enjoys CBT.

NINJA GAIDEN SIGMA ps3 version runs really good, the controls are the same as I remember, but the fact they added the NG3 suit into it was even more fun. The level design, and soundtracks are amazing, but for some people the combat style can be rough I personally loved it (even if I enjoy a lot the turbo NG3:RE). NINJA GAIDEN SIGMA 2 is half ass, because it's censored with some dumb purple smoke, but KOEI lost their brain 100% for losing the source code for the Lord NINJA GAIDEN 2 XBOX360 version like really wtf KOEI ? but I ain't gonna hate too much, because the game is still crazy good to this day, and I'm happy to replay it, but I'm still triggered about that purple smoke. NINJA GAIDEN 3 : RAZOR'S CHEESE has an insane gameplay design, and the fast paced combat is just phenomenal, but the ULTIMATE NINJA difficulty is not so rewarding as in the previous games, you can cheese the hell out of every mob with the scythe spin. - The level design is fu*king terrible, it's just a straight corridor so, do not expect the same kind of design as it is in the previous games where you could navigate all over the places, and even sometimes trigger ambush combats that could reward you with some items or essence. - You can count on your hand the amount of bosses in the game + fighting Regeant 4 times is actually a boring thing. Fighting Regeant twice was enough. - Muramasa doesn't sell you stuff, and you're using karma to upgrade your skills anytime during your gameplay not like in the previous games where you stack your essence just to meet the old man, and trade with him. - There are 9 chapters in total, and the game can be finished within 4h, without a sweat on hard or below if you understand the steel on bone mechanic early in the game. - story was "fun", but I hated discovering ryu's face - +1 because they haven't ported the original NG3 that was a shame to the NG series I hope for a NG4 with NG3:RE gameplay system, and with NG1/2 level design, but after seeing Wo Long I don't have much faith in a new NG4

Ninja Gaiden 3 : Razors edge is the black sheep of the series. If you want to keep your sanity do not play it. It is Infinitesimally WORSE in every way to 1 and 2. If you buy this, buy is on sale and NEVER play three. And if you do. Play it on Easy. Never. Again. Worst one.
